Updates:
Hazardous road conditions remain.
Parish Government working to major routes especially to hospitals and checking bridges for ice.
More cold weather expected tonight dipping into the teens. Warm up tomorrow briefly.
Temperatures will inch above freezing today but significant melting of snow or ice is not anticipated. Any melting will refreeze quickly overnight with temperatures expected to drop below freezing early this evening
Expected to remain above freezing after Friday night.
NWS reporting unofficial record low for Opelousas last night with temp of 4 degrees. NWS unofficial snowfall amount for the Parish 6-8 inches.
Preparations:
Parish Public Works working to Clear Roadways of snow and ice.

Public Works has ordered aggregate to cover iced bridges
Parish airport monitoring weather for ice to close runway.

Opelousas General Update:
Both North and South Campus moving to emergency backup water supply due to low pressure in city water supply. Hospital remained fully functional. Plans to reopen Friday for elective surgeries and outpatient services.
Fully operational at Main and South and not on diversion at this time.
Water on standby at both locations in the event that water pressures from the city drop.
South Campus under a boil advisory, but they do have drinking water.
Water Systems Update:
Prairie Ronde Water System experiencing weather related outages.
Solid Waste Update:
Due to the Arctic conditions that will affect our parish Tuesday, January 21st and Wednesday, January 22nd, the St. Landry Parish landfill will be closed.
This closure will interrupt the Waste collection service by Bayou State and also the bulky Waste pick up with Morgan and Morgan.
We will attempt to resume service on Thursday, January 23. Monday’s route will be collected on Thursday and collection service will continue through Sunday. Waste collection will resume the following week as scheduled.

Nursing Homes have begun check ins.

Warming shelter will open Sunday, January 19th through Thursday, January 23rd at the former Indian Hills Country Club. (Address: 1141 E Prudhomme Street in Opelousas)
The warming shelter will open at 5:00 pm on Sunday and will remain open until Thursday morning at 5:00 pm.

Recommendations
Please encourage residents to:
Make sure pipes, pets and plants are all protected as necessary from freezing weather.
Stay indoors and off roads (Roads need to remain clear for first responders)
Plan for power outages
Do not leave space heaters unattended during use
Do not use stoves, cooking ranges or ovens to heat a home
Keep children at least three feet away from heating sources
Do not use generators or grills indoors for heat or power
