With the help of Abbeville, Eric Adcock wrote the song, “Gulfstream” on Roddie Romero and the Hub City All-Stars album. Well, on Tuesday morning at 7:45, Adcock learned that his song was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Adcock woke up on Tuesday to check the Grammy category, “Best Regional Roots Music.” He and his wife, Jennifer, strolled through the different Grammy categories in search of the nominations in the category Best Regional Roots Music.
Adcock was hoping to see if Roddie Romero and the Hub City All-Stars Album, “Gulfstream” would be nominated.
For 25 years, Adcock has been a piano player and song writer for Roddie Romero.
At first he passed over the category, “Best American Roots Song” not thinking to see a song from “Gulfstream” listed.
His wife, however, saw the word “Gulfstream” as he strolled through the categories. She told him to stroll back.
And there was the title of the song, “Gulfstream” in the list of songs nominated that also featured song writers such as Vince Gill and Jack White.
“Gulfstream” is a song that Adcock wrote for the album named “Gulfstream.”
“I was elated,” said Adcock.
Adcock and his wife have lived in Abbeville for 14 years. They at eat at Black’s Oyster Bar in Abbeville. While hanging out at Blacks, Adcock was inspired to write about the stories Blacks owner Brian Bourque told him about Blacks and Abbeville.
The blues type song mentions, “shucking a dozen oysters,” “Falstaff Beer,” “Blacks, Bobby Charles and Blue” and Vermilion Parish’s sunset, along with the neon light in Blacks.
He also sings about the two owls that hang out above the St. Mary Magdelan steeple late at night.
“We are grateful for experience we have had in this community,” he said. “It has inspired my song writing.
This nomination is also for the community. Without the community, I would have not written this song.”
The album, “Gulfstream” is also nominated for a Grammy in the category, “Best Regional Roots Music.”
Adcock wrote the lyrics for eight out of the 10 songs on the album. Two other songs are old Bobby Charles songs. Charles is from Abbeville.
The Grammys will be held in California in February. The Adcocks have already received their invitations and plan to make the trip.
Win or lose, Adcock said he is grateful for the nomination. He compared it to getting a college diploma, no one can take that away.
“I am going to stay in the moment.”
