A Rayne man faces attempted murder charges after an apparent road-rage incident Sunday night.
Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson said Michael Nugent, 22, was booked into the parish jail on two counts of attempted second-degree murder afte he allegedly fired a gun at a vehicle.
Gibson said the incident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. Friday on Louisiana Highway 35 (Branch Highway) north of Rayne.
According to Gibson, the call to police was made after Nugent’s vehicle passed another on Highway 35, then allegedly turned on a bright light on the rear of his vehicle, blinding the driver of the other car.
The victim reportedly looked for an opportunity to pass Nugent’s vehicle but was met with shots being fired at his vehicle, according to statements.
Officers with the Rayne Police Department were able to locate the suspect vehicle as it entered the city. Officers stopped the vehicle and detained Nugent.

Bond on Nugent was set at $250,000.
