On Tuesday, a Ville Platte couple accused the Ville Platte Police Department of violating their constitutional rights by using a warrant to search their home which they do not believe was valid.
In a report from KATC news this issue stems from an incident that happened Monday evening at an apartment on North Latour Street in Ville Platte.
The television news station reported Tatiana Freeman described the encounter in the following way. “The knob was being played with and I thought someone was breaking into the house. I went to try and wake up my husband and get protection. Before we could do that, the cops just burst through our house with the guns. We didn’t even have clothes on.”
Freeman alleged the warrant used to enter her home was invalid due to the fact that the physical address for the property was missing from the warrant as well as the proper name of the apartment complex.
The warrant used only describes the location as the “Red bricks apartment upstair number 13.”
According to Ville Platte Chief of Police Neal Lartigue his officers were working off a tip from what he called a “reliable source.” He also said the Jason’s name didn’t have to be on the warrant since they were searching for items inside the home.
Freeman’s husband Brandon Jason told television news, “They didn’t serve their job right. They violated our Fourth Amendment rights. They really violated us. I’ve been embarrassed in front of the cops, my child and family.”
