Derrick Mitchell indicted for death of Paul Rice

Derrick Mitchell has been indicted for the death of Paul Rice.
A Grand Jury indicted Mitchell on Monday for first-degree murder. Mitchell is accused of shooting and killing Rice on July 5, 2012. Rice was shot at the corner of Bailey Street and Felicity Street in Abbeville.
According to a warrant, Mitchell is currently being held in the LaSalle Parish Jail. Mitchell had previously been indicted on two other shooting deaths in Abbeville.
Mitchell was indicted for the Dec. 20, 2012 death of Darryl Broussard Jr. Broussard was shot at his home on South Lamar Street in Abbeville.
Mitchell was also indicted for the Dec. 7, 2012 shooting death of Kyle Trahan.
Mitchell has not yet gone to trail for the
Broussard and Trahan cases.
Mitchell is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 19 for the most recent indictment.
Law enforcement officials captured Mitchell in Stockton, Calif., in September of 2015, after he had mistakenly been released from a jail in Tensas Parish in March of that year. He was released after his sentence for unrelated drug and battery charges had ended.
