Fire destroys Henderson landmark

An early morning fire on Sunday, Nov. 19 destroyed Robin’s Hardware, a landmark in this small community. Henderson police officer Jordan Noel sounded the alarm around 1 a.m., Henderson, Breaux Bridge, Cecilia and Arnaudville fire departments responded to the blaze. It took several hours to get the fire under control.
Early Sunday morning, as the Robin family sifted through the debris trying to retrieve items that were salvageable, the body of a unknown male was discovered near the front door. The area was immediately roped off until the State Fire Marshal arrived. The agency is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire and the identity of the body.
For 46 years owner George Robin has operated the hardware/lumberyard located in the 1400 block of Henderson Hwy/LA 352. “George’s,” as the locals called it was a full service hardware store since 1971.
In the mornings it was a meeting place where locals gathered for coffee and discussed the latest news. Robin not only sold merchandise but also offered advice.
Another sad ending to one of the few locally owned businesses in Henderson.
