Library may reopen this week

Mayor hoping library reopens in August

Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said he plans to reopen the Eunice Library by August. The library on 2nd Street has been closed since July 10, the morning after the Eunice Board of Aldermen approved actions to create an independent library.

Library, strategic plan on city’s agenda

Public hearings are scheduled ordinances to open the way for the city of Eunice to form its own library and break away from the Opelousas-Eunice Library, which was formed in 1967. Mayor Scott Fontenot explained at the June meeting the split was discussed when Rusty Moody was Eunice mayor.

Board moves on library breakup

A move to reestablish the Eunice Public Library gained traction at Tuesday’s city meeting as aldermen approved a pair of ordinances — one to repeal an ordinance forming the Opelousas-Eunice system and the other to reestablish the Eunice library.
