Basile runs past Tigers in comeback thriller

BASILE – In a rematch from last year’s Class 1-A playoffs, the Basile Bearcats battled the Montgomery Tigers in game between two different styles of offense.
Montgomery led 22-6 early in the second period, but Basile rallied in the second half to grab a 63-40 win.
The No. 6 Bearcats now advance to the quarterfinals and travel to No. 3 Kentwood after the Kangaroos earned a 34-6 win over No. 19 Merryville.
It only took two plays for Montgomery to grab an early lead as Tiger quarterback Logan Graves connected with J.T. Turner for a 45-yard scoring strike.

Lady Jays soar past ASH Saints

GRAND COTEAU – St. Edmund controlled the game from the opening tip as the Lady Blue Jays cruised to a 57-5 romp over the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau.
The Lady Jays grabbed a 12-0 first quarter lead, begun on put-back buckets by Rebecca Benoit and Savannah DeVillier.
Kinsley Marcantel then scored four straight points as St. Ed’s led, 8-0 midway through the first quarter.
DeVillier pushed in a shot on an inbound’s pass and Tanzy Miller hit a jumper in the closing seconds to push the Lady Jays ahead, 12-0.

Bobcats roll past Brusly, 34-20

It was catfight as the Bobcats battled the Panthers before No. 2 Eunice earned a 34-20 win over No. 31 Brusly in the first round of the Class 3-A playoffs.
Brusly (5-6) opened the first quarter by scoring on their first possession thanks to a 62-yard touchdown run by Tra Snearl and a successful PAT point to take a 7-0 lead.
But Eunice (9-2) would answer with an eight-play drive to tie the game at 7-7 with 7:39 left in the opening quarter.

Hornets sting No. 7 Blue Jays

No. 10 Catholic High of Pointe Coupee scored two second half touchdowns as the Hornets stunned No. 7 St. Edmund 19-12 in the opening round of the LHSAA Division IV playoffs.
CHPC (8-2) advances to take on No. 2 Ascension Catholic, 52-8 winners over No. 15 Hanson Memorial.
St. Edmund finishes the season at 9-2.
“I am proud of this team as they fought all game long,” Andy Hargroder said. “We battled and fought well but just came up short.”
“It was a great group of seniors that led the whole way for back-to-back district titles.”

Blue Jays earn second straight 4-1A title

With the song “We are the Chmpions” blaring over the loudspeakers, the Blue Jays celebrated back-to-back District 4-1A championships as St. Edmund cruised to a 42-0 win over Merryville Thursday night.
“I am proud of the way our guys played all year,” St. Edmund head coach Andy Hargroder said after the win. “We were able to move the ball on offense and play stromg defense and the seniors helped lead the way to their second straight district title.”
