On Friday, March 6, the Eunice Police Department Narcotics Division, with assistance from the Eunice Police Department Tactical Response Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 100 block of Rodney Street in Eunice.
The warrant was the result of a lengthy narcotics investigation into the alleged facilitation and distribution of synthetic marijuana within the city.
The investigation was initiated after detectives received narcotics-related complaints and information indicating possible illegal drug activity occurring at the residence. Detectives conducted an extensive investigation, gathering evidence and information that ultimately led to the issuance of a search warrant for the location.
During the execution of the warrant, detectives located and seized approximately 8.2 pounds of synthetic marijuana, 17.6 grams of marijuana, suspected promethazine, digital scales commonly used in the distribution of narcotics, and approximately $575 in U.S. currency believed to be proceeds derived from illegal drug transactions.
As a result of the investigation and evidence recovered, Damian Dwight Monday, 38, of Eunice, was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
LA RS 40:966(A) – Distribution of Synthetic Marijuana
LA RS 40:966(A) – Distribution of Marijuana
LA RS 40:1041 – Proceeds Derived From Drug Transactions
LA RS 40:1060.13 – Possession of Promethazine
Monday was taken into custody and will face the charges in accordance with Louisiana law.
Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef stated that the arrest and seizure highlight the department’s continued focus on investigating narcotics complaints and addressing illegal drug activity within the community.
“The Eunice Police Department remains committed to thoroughly investigating every narcotics complaint that we receive,” said Chief LeBouef. “Information provided by members of the community plays an important role in helping us identify and address illegal drug activity. Synthetic marijuana and other illegal narcotics pose a serious danger to public safety and to the health and well-being of our citizens.”
Chief LeBouef further emphasized that illegal drug distribution often contributes to other forms of criminal activity and places the community at risk.
“Our department will continue to aggressively pursue individuals who are responsible for distributing illegal narcotics within our city,” Chief LeBouef said. “The sale and distribution of drugs jeopardize lives, fuels additional criminal behavior, and undermines the safety of our neighborhoods. We will utilize every available investigative resource to identify those responsible and hold them accountable for their actions.”
Chief LeBouef commended the efforts of the Eunice Police Department Narcotics Division and Tactical Response Unit for their continued dedication and proactive work in addressing drug-related crimes.
“The work performed by our Narcotics Division is critical in our ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug use and distribution,” Chief LeBouef added. “Their investigations are often lengthy and require significant coordination, but their commitment helps ensure that those who engage in these illegal activities are brought to justice.”
The Eunice Police Department encourages anyone with information regarding illegal narcotics activity to report it to the department so that it can be properly investigated. Cooperation between the community and law enforcement is essential in keeping the City of Eunice safe.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges or arrests may be possible as detectives continue to review evidence related to this case.
