Cleco warns customers to beware of scam phone calls

Scammers claiming to be from Cleco are calling customers, and Cleco wants customers to be on alert and know the signs to protect themselves.
“We’re getting reports of fraudulent phone calls to our customers by scammers claiming to be from Cleco and threatening service disconnection if customers don’t make an immediate payment,” said Ron Smith, director of customer experience. “Cleco will never call customers threatening immediate service disconnection or demand any type of immediate payment.”

Cleco announces long-term payment plan for customers

To help customers facing financial challenges related to COVID-19, Cleco temporarily suspended service disconnects and late fees beginning March 13 through Aug. 31.
“We recently received direction from our state regulatory agency, the Louisiana Public Service Commission, informing us that disconnects and assessments of late fees can resume after July 16, and payment plans for past due bills can be created for up to 12 months,” said Shane Hilton, president of Cleco Power.

Assistance available for energy bills

Cleco customers who meet the eligibility requirements for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) can apply for assistance now by contacting their local community action agency. A list of Louisiana’s agencies is available on the Louisiana Housing Corp. (LHC) website at (click on COVID-19 Energy Assistance).
