Assessor announces retirement

Body

Dear Citizens of St. Landry Parish,
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you, the citizens of St. Landry Parish as your Assessor. I have decided that this current term in office will be my last. While I will be stepping down as Assessor of our parish, I will still be involved in our community as our parish moves forward economically and with the technology of our modern age.
On November 4, 1986, I was elected Assessor for St. Landry Parish and from that day forward, I tried to make things better for our office and our people. The job of Assessor is unique. Every four years, Assessors are required to revalue all property for tax purposes. The appraisal process is complicated and takes an extended period to complete. My staff and I, using modern technology and working within my budget, have made our office one of the leading assessing offices in the State of Louisiana. We offer several special services including an online mapping system available to the public. We have made many improvements through the years and I am confident that with the right leadership, the St. Landry Parish Assessor’s office will continue to function as one of the leading assessing offices in the State of Louisiana.
Owning property is the American Dream. I have worked with homeowners, small business owners, farmers, and cattlemen to help achieve that dream. I have also worked with corporations to promote economic growth. A fair property tax system encourages economic growth and brings more jobs for our people. As a leader and past president of the Louisiana Assessor’s Association, I worked tirelessly to protect the homestead exemption and other tax breaks that property owners enjoy today.
Prior to becoming Assessor, I worked in the private sector for over 20 years. Working with small business owners helped to prepare me for the job of Assessor. Serving the people of St. Landry Parish and administering a fair property tax system has been one of the most gratifying responsibilities of my life. Following our State Constitution and State Statutes, I always ruled in favor of our taxpayers whenever possible.
The St. Landry Parish Assessor’s Office is a model office because of the outstanding employees who work with me and the great support that the people of this parish have given to our office.
I want to thank you, the people of St. Landry Parish, for your continuing support and I want you to know that I and my family are deeply grateful for the trust and confidence you have placed in me by allowing me to serve you in public office.
May God bless you.
Sincerely,
Rhyn Duplechain
