A great big thank you for participating in the formation of the St. Landry Veteran Funeral Honor Guard. The Honor Guard is on a solid foundation with the purchase of new rifles and a top of the line ceremonial bugle with a multi-call mode bugle insert providing different selections of military music. The “Taps” mode will be the most used for military funeral honors ceremonies.
Of course we are paying as we purchase therefore we have no debts. Although we have progressed quit well and are still accepting donations for the uniform side of the Honor Guard.
Our plans are to uniform a minimum of 20 veterans to complete a number for a rotation basis. Our recruiting is based on youth and availability because when a uniform is purchased for a member hopefully it will last several years. An Honor Guard application may be obtained from your town clerk at City Hall.
Again, I would like to make it clear that this Honor Guard will not interfere with the functions of VFW or American Legion Posts of St. Landry Parish. This particular Honor Guard will uniquely participate in veterans funerals only.
There are approximately 5,500 veterans in St. Landry Parish and the belief is that every veteran honorably discharged from the military and residing in St. Landry Parish should be buried with dignity with full military honors, justifying “The Best Going Away Possible.”
If you have not read of this particular Honor Guard I suggest you go to our web-site stlandryvetshonorguard.com and if your name does not appear on the donor list, now is the time to consider a donation addressed to American Legion Post 514, in care of Veterans Funeral Honor Guard, P.O. Box 1145, Opelousas, La. 70571.
“Let me not mourn for the men who have died fighting, but rather let me be glad such heroes have lived. If it be my lot to die, let me do so with the courageand honor..Please, oh Lord, protect and guide those I shall leave behind.” Gen. George S. Patton.
“Our veterans have delivered for our country. Now it’s our turn to deliver for them.”
Citizens of Eunice, thank you for your consideration and kindness.
