Bobcats defeat Breaux Bridge, Sacred Heart

The Eunice Bobcats defeated the Breaux Bridge Tigers by an 8-3 margin in baseball action at the LSUE Baseball Tournament this past weekend. The Bobcats scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Jahiem Mitchell tripled to leadoff the game and scored on a sacrifice fly by Braiden Rider. The Tigers managed to score a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Bobcats added four more runs in the third inning. Dylan Darbonne opened the inning with a hit and Hayden Darbonne singled to plate the run. Price Meyers drew a walk and later scored to give the Cats a 6-1 lead. Mitchell’s single in the fourth inning was folowed by Dylan Guillory’s double to give the Bobcats an 8-3 advantage and the victory. The Bobcats completed their appearance at LSUE with a win over St. Edmund and a loss to Hanville.
On Monday, the Bobcats took on the visiting Sacred Heart Trojans at Bobcat Field in a game that was part of the summer schedule. The Trojans opened the game with a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats tried to answer in the bottom of the inning as Jahiem Mitchell doubled to lead off the inning, but the Cats were unable to advance Mitchell. Eunice starting pitcher Zach Suire was able to keep the Trojans from scoring in the top of the second inning, but the Cats scored in the bottom of the inning as Grant Fontenot walked, stole second base and scored a run on a double by Price Meyers to tie the game at 1-1.
The Trojans scored two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Trojans kept the Cats from scoring in the third inning, retiring the side in order. In the top of the fourth, the Trojans scored a run, giving them a 4-1 lead. But the Cats responded in the bottom of the fourth, with Fontenot driving the ball for a double. Dylan Guillory follwed Fontenot with a single before Hayden Darbonne added a double to score Fontenot and Guillory. Singles by Meyers and Alex Young tied the game at 4-4.. In the top of the fifth, the Trojans scored a run to pull ahead by a 5-4 margin.
But the Trojan lead didn’t last for long as the Cats scored three runs to take a 7-4 advantage. The fifth inning began with a single by Mitchell, a run-scoring double by Suire, and a single by Braiden Rider.
The Trojans bounced back in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs to take an 8-7 lead. The Cats answered back in the bottom of the sixth with Guillory drawing a walk and stealing second base. Hayden Darbonne doubled to drive in Guillory. Myers reached base after being hit by a pitch, and a single by Young allowed Myers to score the final run to give the Bobcats a 10-8 victory.
Five Eunice pitchers worked off the mound for the Cats. They were Gage Miller, Caiden Burson, Price Meyers and Alex Young.
