Prairie Acadian Cultural Center plans ‘Camp Bonjour’
Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve’s Prairie Acadian Cultural Center in Eunice is now accepting applications for “Camp Bonjour,” a week-long day camp for kids ages 6-8 and 9-12.

Children ages 9-12 and ages 6-8 are eligible to participate in summer day camps as follows:
Ages 9-12 July 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., $50 fee; and
Ages 6-8 July 17-21 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., $30 fee.
Registration is limited to 20 campers per session.
“Camp Bonjour” will include cultural activities such as Cajun French music, zydeco music, Cajun dancing, old-fashioned games, storytelling, hands-on arts and crafts, and activities on Cajun culture and the National Park Service. In addition, campers ages 9-12 will learn water safety, canoeing and other outdoor skills led by a National Park Service ranger.
The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is managed by the National Park Service as part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The center features exhibits interpreting the culture of the Acadians who settled the prairies of southwest Louisiana. Special programs every Saturday include Explore & Restore craft workshops for kids (10 a.m. to noon) and Cajun Conversations to learn and practice conversational Cajun French (1 to 2:30 p.m.). Saturday afternoon programs include music and dancing beginning at 2:45 p.m. and a cooking demonstration beginning at 4 p.m. The center is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center is closed on all federal holidays but open on Mardi Gras. Admission to the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is free and all normally scheduled activities and demonstrations are free and open to the public.
