Air conditiioning again closes Prairie Acadian Cultural Center

The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center in Eunice is temporarily closed as of Wednesday.
Air conditioning needs have persisted and continue to result in temporary closures. The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve is located at 250 West Park Avenue, Eunice. More information is available at 337-457-8490 or at nps.gov/jela.

Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is temporary Rendez-vous des Cajuns site

The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center will temporarily have new hours and new programs, including Rendez-vous des Cajuns, on Saturdays beginning Oct. 12.
Rendez-vous des Cajuns has been on hiatus since air conditioning issues at the Liberty Theater caused a temporary closure.
Until further notice, the center will be open 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays; Wednesday-Friday hours will remain 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve is located at 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice.

AC outage won’t stop celebration’s final performance

The air conditioning breakdown and closing of the Liberty Theater is casting a shadow on one of the top events scheduled for city’s 125th anniversary celebration.
The Grammy-award-winning band, the Pine Leaf Boys, is scheduled to perform from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Liberty Theater.
The $20 ticket price was intended to help pay for day’s music, Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said.
The repair or replacement is at the expense of the National Park Service, he said.

The “Rendez-vous des Cajuns” show at the Liberty Theater was canceled for Saturday and Sept. 7 because the air conditioning system broke down. The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center was was closed Thursday, also due to the air conditioner issue. According to an email from Rebecca Lasell, deputy superintendent of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, “We are currently exploring options to restore air conditioning as soon as possible. Delays may occur if the purchase and installation of a new system is required.
