State Police: Harley rear tire blows, cyclist ejected, killed

State Police report a blown tire resulted in the death of a motorcyclist shortly before noon Saturday on Interstate 10 east near La. 91.
In a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release, troopers determined that 52-year-old Larry Walters of Lawton, Oklahoma, was traveling east on Interstate 10 on a 2011 Harley Davidson when, for unknown reasons, the rear tire deflated and Walters lost control. 
Walters was ejected off of the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.  Walters was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash.

St. Landry Parish man killed walking across road

A 76-year-old Opelousas man died when he struck by a vehicle while he was walking across La. 742, according to a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release.
The preliminary investigation revealed 48-year-old Carrie Soileau of Port Barre was traveling west on La. 742 in a 2012 Kia Sorento. The pedestrian, Russell Zachary, was walking north across the roadway near Amy Road as Soileau approached. Soileau attempted to steer away from Zachary, but he stumbled and fell into the path of Soileau’s vehicle in the westbound lane.

Eunice woman arrested for fatal crash

Karmen Lomas, a 46-year-old Eunice woman, was arrested in connection with a crash that took the life of Gregory Leger, 24, of Rayne, according to a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release.
The crash occurred on May 13 on La. 13 near Schultz Road in Acadia Parish.
On Wednesday, troopers arrested Lomas after toxicology results showed that Lomas was under the influence of multiple types of narcotics at the time of the crash, police stated.
Lomas was placed under arrest and charged with vehicular homicide and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, police stated.

Acadia Parish crash claims 2 lives

A two-vehicle crash resulted in two men suffering fatal injuries on La. 3070 (McCain Road) at La. 98 in Acadia Parish shortly before 7:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I.
Police identified the victms as 40-year-old Carlos Lazo of Duson and 28-year-old Luis Estrada of Scott.
The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed that

U.S. 190 wreck

A two-car wreck occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 190 east of Eunice. A Louisiana State Police trooper was investigating. Bystanders said there was a person in the ambulance, but believed that person walked there. (Photo by Harlan Kirgan)
