Trooper: Cell phones and driving are dangerous mix

Cell phones are probably the single most dangerous and overused distraction of drivers in Louisiana, according to Trooper First Class Thomas Gossen, public information officer for Louisiana State Police Troop I.
Gossen spoke to members of the Crowley Lions Club recently about a variety of subjects, ranging from seat belt use to the possible legalization of marijuana to the use of cell phones in automobiles.
“There is a lot of emphasis on cell phone use in the legislature right now,” Gossen said.

Eunice woman, killed, man injured in early morning wreck

A single-vehicle crash on La. 13 near La. 374 in Evangeline Parish. resulted in the death of 28-year-old Krissii Guillory of Eunice, and the serious injury of 26-year-old Dale Guidry of Eunice, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I.
State Police said the crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday as Guidry was driving a Ford F250 northbound on La. 13 when he failed to negotiate a left hand turn and exited the roadway to the right.

State Police investigating officer-involved shooting

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Louisiana State Police Troop I was contacted by the Ville Platte Police Department to assist with the apprehension of a shooting suspect located in a residence in the 700 block of Wilson Street.
According to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I, upon arrival to the residence, officers with the Pine Prairie Police Department, Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana State Police encountered the suspect and exchanged gunfire. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m. No officers were injured.

Church Point man arrested after crash kills Eunice man

A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 190 at La. 752 resulted in the death of 66-year-old Joseph Arabie of Eunice, and the arrest of 52-year-old Troy St Ann of Church Point, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I.
State Police said the crash occurred at about 7:45 p.m. as Arabie was driving a 2001 GMC Yukon westbound on U.S. 190 when it was struck in the rear by a westbound 2014 Chevrolet Corvette driven by St Ann.
