Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 10 westbound west of Crowley.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as a 2000 Newmar motor-home was traveling west on Interstate 10 in the right lane and experienced a rapid tire deflation. The motor-home crossed into the left lane of travel and sideswiped a 2012 Honda Civic, operated by 34-year-old Samuel Martinez Jr. of Fayetteville, North Carolina. After impact the motorhome continued to travel off the roadway, struck a bridge guardrail, and then overturned on its left side in the median.
Despite the fact that both the driver and passenger of the motorhome were properly restrained, they suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. They were pronounced dead on scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office.
They have been identified as Michael Brower, 69, of Canyon, Lake, Texas. and Deborah Frew, 62, of Canyon Skyline, Texas.
Both Martinez and a passenger were properly restrained, and were transported from the scene to local hospitals with minor injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time, and toxicology samples were taken from both drivers, the results of which are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
