Two splash pad parks are planned in Eunice, one by the tennis courts at Fairground Park and the other at the former Amy Swimming Pool near Central Middle School, Mayor Scott Fontenot said.
The city will spend about $100,000 each for the two parks, which Fontenot said should be open the first of June.
The city is contracting with Aquatic Interactive to buy the fixtures and design for the pads, he said. The company will contract with local companies to do the installation, he said.
Hazards around the old softball fields at the Fairgrounds are being removed, but the area will remain available for practice use, he said.
The pads will be about 2,000-square feet in size and will accommodate 60 to 70 users at a time, Fontenot said.
Fontenot said details on the size and features of the pads had not been completed as of Tuesday.
Discussion about splash pads began during Mayor Rusty Moody’s administration, but funding was an issue.
The money for the splash pads is coming from a 30-year contract with Cleco, he said. The city received about $450,000 for Cleco when Moody signed the contract, he said.
On another park issue, Fontenot said a church which wished to remain anonymous, donated the equipment for Circle Park. The city will install the equipment. The equipment should be available in about six weeks.
