The 33rd annual World Wide Crawfish Etouffee Cookoff was held Sunday at the Northwest pavilion and grounds with huge groves of people attending for crawfish etouffee tasting and dancing to live Cajun bands.
Over 30 booths of professionals, amateur and clubs and organizations cooked their ‘secret’ crawfish etouffee dish for people to sample. Professional judges tasted and chose winners in cooking division of amateur, professional and clubs and organizations. Booth decorations were judged for the best decorated authentic looking presentation. The KEUN listeners choice award was presented, Eunice Chamber raffle ticket winners were named, and live auction winners were also named.
Live Cajun music bands played beginning at 10 a.m. until 3:30, and they included Seth Spell and Cajun Strong, Kyle Huval & Dixie Club Ramblers and The Band Courtbouillon with Wayne Toups, Steve Riley and Wilson Savoy.
Winners of the 2018 Booth/Showmanship Decorations included: Amateur division, GlassCo, first place; AAA Refrigeration won second; and third place winner was Eunice Career & Techical Education Center (ECTEC). In the professional division, LAS won first place; Non-Blonde Cafe took second place; and in the Clubs/Organization division, Eunice Mardi Gras Association won first place, second place winner was Cajun Tiger Tailgating.
Winners in the 2018 Cooking categories were, in Amateur division, first place went to Eunice Career & Technical Education Center (ECTEC); The Pa-ta-sa Cooking Crew won second; and third place went to Joe Fontenot of Fontenot’s Maintenance Service. In the Professional Cooking category winners were L’Acadian Inn, first place; Lakeview Beach & Park won second place, and in the Clubs and Organization category division winners were Progressive Tractor, first place, and Grace Home Health won second.
The KEUN Listeners Award, voted and chosen by the people, went to AAA Refrigeration.
