Lafayette attorney Vanessa Waguespack Anseman is back in the race for the open seat on the state 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal.
At a hearing Monday, the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal reversed a ruling by St. Landry Parish District Judge Alonzo Harris, who had found she did not meet the legal qualifications for the office.
Harris had ruled the day before early voting began. The question, brought by St. Landry Parish District Attorney Earl Taylor, was on how long Anseman had been admitted to the practice of law.
The election is Saturday.
Also in the race are Lafayette attorneys Candyce Perret and Susan Theall.
All three candidates are woman and Republicans.
The winner will fill the unexpired term of Jimmy Genovese, who won a seat on the state Supreme Court last year.
The 3rd Court of Appeal includes 21 parishes and is based in Lake Charles. The election is for District 3 of the 3rd Circuit, which encompasses Acadia, Allen, Evangeline, Lafayette, Iberia, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermilion parishes.
