The air conditioning breakdown and closing of the Liberty Theater is casting a shadow on one of the top events scheduled for city’s 125th anniversary celebration.
The Grammy-award-winning band, the Pine Leaf Boys, is scheduled to perform from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Liberty Theater.
The $20 ticket price was intended to help pay for day’s music, Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said.
The repair or replacement is at the expense of the National Park Service, he said.
As of Wednesday morning, there had been no word from the Park Service about the air conditioning issue.
The Park Service announced Aug. 27 that the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center was closed The closure included the Liberty Theater.
The city cancelled the Aug. 31 and Sept. 7 shows at the Liberty.
Fontenot said the Pine Leaf Boys performance will be moved outside if necessary and as for the finances “the cap” might be passed around for donations.
