The St. Martin School Board and former Superintendent Dr. Lottie Beebe have agreed to terms of a settlement connected with her abrupt dismissal last month.
Beebe, who had served as superintendent since July 2013, was working on a month-to-month basis following the board’s failure to renew her last contract, which expired on June 30 of this year.
She was terminated near the end of the board’s Sept. 5 meeting by a 6-4 vote. Following the vote and over the next few days, Beebe, through her attorney Lane Roy of Lafayette, threatened legal action against the board, alleging that her dismissal violated state law and her contract.
But the two sides apparently worked out a settlement that was finalized during the board’s Oct. 3 meeting.
Key provisions of the agreement include:
•Both Beebe and the board agreed to “sever their employment relationship.”
•Dr. Beebe submitted her resignation with an effective date “on or before” June 30, 2019.
•She will be paid her regular salary ($137,431 annually), contractual incentives and benefits, together with any unpaid leave through that date.
•Upon request, she will assist the board in searching for and selected a new superintendent and will perform the duties of “special consultant” for the board, when requested.
•If Beebe is employed on a full-time basis by another public entity in the state, she will continue to receive compensation from the board but the board’s obligation to continue paying her benefits such as retirement and insurance will cease effective with her new employment.
•Beebe agreed to release the board and its associated employees, agents and others from any and all claims of any nature or kind ... or damages arising out of her employment and resignation.
