City agenda again fills with dangerous properties

A list of properties referred to as “dangerous structures” filled the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the mayor and Board of Aldermen.
A meeting to set the agenda began with three parish-owned properties on the agenda and updates on three other properties.
Bill Thompson, code enforcement officer, added four other properties for discussion at the meeting scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the second floor council chambers in the Eunice Municipal Complex, 300 S. 2nd St.
The properties adjudicated to St. Landry Parish are 230 S. Mallet St., 460 N. Mallet St. and 230 Olivia St.
Vernon McManus, city attorney, said notices were sent to Parish President Bill Fontenot about the city’s action that may end with the demolition of the structures on the properties.
As of the meeting Thursday, McManus said he not received a reply to the letters.
Previously, Mayor Scott Fontenot said the parish president is ready to work with the city on the properties.
Properties added to the agenda are:
— 401 College Road. “People are going in and out of there,” Thompson said of the structure. “It needs to come down,” he added.
— 741 Lewis St. “Bad shape” and “blighted,” Thompson said.
— 251 Boudreaux. Thompson did not comment on the property.
— 331 Perrotti. Thompson said the porch and roof are falling.
Thompson’s updates were on:
— 720 Carron St. Thompson said there has not been much work done to improve the property.
— 560 Lewis St. Improvements are being made, but slowly, he said.
— 350 E. Peach Ave. A trailer is to be hauled off the property, but Thompson said the owner said, “The guy who was going to haul it off, his truck broke down and he can’t afford to fix it.”
Other agenda items include:
