The following are from the January 1998 files of The Eunice News.
Nominees for the Eunice Rotary Club’s 1996 Citizen of the Year were Dr. Jacqueline Fruge, Susan Guillory Gaspard, Dwight Jodon and Pat Dossman, Jacque Pucheu, the Rev. Wil Sylvester, Brian Tanner and Hannah Zaunbrecher.
Acadia Parish voters approved a one-cent sales tax for parish rural roads and bridges. In the same election, Crowley voters approved a one-half cent sales tax for street repairs.
Angela Fontenot, of Eunice, daughter of Betty and Larry Fontenot, was selected to perform in the Super Bowl XXXI pre-game show. Fontenot attended Church Point High School. The Super Bowl was scheduled Jan. 26 at the Superdome in New Orleans.
Eunice Regional Medical Center officials invited an advisory council to meet in February to have a discussion about the future of Moosa Memorial Hospital. Tommy Myers, chairman of the Eunice Regional Medical Center of Moosa Memorial Hospital, said, “This will be a bar-none discussion.”
Becky Lee Swint, of Eunice, was selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. She was a junior at Eunice High School.
