Glendale Elementary School recognizes its Accelerated Readers. They are Russell Armond, Erin Harris and John Ardoin were recognized during the last six weeks as reaching their 25-point accelerated reading goal.
The home of Lonell White at 300 McKenzie Street was chosen as Garden of the Week by the Eunice Bulb & Blossom Club. The yard is landscaped with flowering beds of pink and white calidiums, impatiens, hydrangeas, periwinkles, Lily of the Nile, calla lilies, alvera plant, begonias, angel wing begonias, geraniums, schoefflera plant and red hibiscus. A farewell reception at St. Anthony Catholic Church. A farewell reception was held on July 1 in St. Anthony Church’s parish hall for Father Stephen Ugwu, associate pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Father Ugwu has been assigned to St. Mathilda Catholic Church.
Oilers devastate Seminoles 17-2. Eunice team drops Opelousas after falling hard to Crowley last week. Austin Young sprints for third base during Wednesday night’s game against Crowley.
Mardi Gras masks and capuchons. The Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve Acadian Cultural Center provided Summer Culture Fun Days for children ages 9 and 10 this week. The camp was designed to showcase the man influences on Prairie Acadian life. On Tuesday the children made Mardi Gras masks and capuchons from poster boards, fabric, glue, and screens. Sporting their finished product from left are Maritza Dicks, Savannah D’Aubin, Adrienne Bergeaux, Meghan Bush and Cassidy LeDoux.
Oilers take District 7-East title. Oilers claim district championship after 3-2 win, Indians’ forfeit. Manny Sandoval pitched the save for the Oilers in Wednesday night’s game. Beau Leger’s triple in the fourth inning scored the two runs needed to give the Oilers the lead in Wednesday’s game.
Governor’s Program on Abstinence. A delegation of students from St. Edmund and Eunice High attended the Governor’s Program on Abstinence Summer Camp in Bunkie July 1 through July 3. The students learned how to work together on several projects to bring the GPA (Abstinence) message to St. Edmund and Eunice High School. From left, are Jacob Holt, Marsades Ceasar, Kenny Moore, Kandy Andrepont, Yogi Sittig, Simone Guillory, and Ashlyn Daville. The sponsors are Sarah Summerlin and Pamela Guye.
