There are only three elections in the Eunice area that have a chance of entering a runoff on Dec. 8.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for an election that includes a contest at the top of the ballot for secretary of state.
Perhaps the strongest focus in the election has been the municipal election that has contests for all but alderman at-large, which was won by Marion “Nootsie” Sattler when he was the lone qualifier for the job.
There are three candidates each for Ward 1 and Ward 2 alderman, which could trigger a runoff. The District 11 St. Landry Parish School Board seat, which is adjacent to Eunice, also has a field of three.
At the end of early voting 563 votes had been cast in the Eunice election.
Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters, estimated a 40 percent turnout in St. Landry Parish where there are a dozen municipal elections.
In Acadia Parish, there were 4,325 votes cast as of Tuesday. In Evangeline Parish, the total was 2,215 votes.
There were 307,237 votes cast in the state at the end of early voting.
