Three family members ended up being arrested as a drug bust turned into a fracas at a residence in the 1400 block of West Vine.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said officers received information that Francis Schaefer IV, 29, possessed and was selling crystal methamphetamine from the house.
‘The information came from his father,” he said.
Eunice Police radio dispatch logs indicated the call came in at 6:06 p.m. Saturday.
“The officers went over there and obtained permission to search the residence,” Fontenot.
“While they are conducting their search they did in fact find some crystal meth in the house. Once the officers located that crystal meth one of the residents, the mother of Frank Schaefer the fourth, revoked her consent to the search,” Fontenot said.
The officers discontinued the search until a search warrant could be obtained, he said.
“At this point, to secure the scene and to avoid the possible destruction of any evidence, the officers asked all of the residents to stand outside while waiting to get the search warrant,” he said.
Fontenot said the mother, Maria Schaefer, 58, refused to go outside and the officers began to physically remove her from the home.
Maria Schaefer had a cup of hot coffee and threw some of it in one officer’s face and onto the upper right arm of the other officer.
A struggle began and Jake Schaefer, 24, attempted to take an officer’s handgun from the holster.
Jake Schaefer was charged with resisting an officer, attempted disarming of a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and battery of a peace officer.
Maria Schaefer was charged with two counts of battery on a police officer and resisting an officer.
Francis Schaefer IV, was charged with drug possession, resisting an officer possession of drug paraphernalia.
