NUNU Arts and Culture Collective offers classes

NUNU Arts and Culture Collective, 1510 Courtableau Highway, Arnaudville, opens enrollment for its NUNU yoU spring offering of classes. Oil Painting and Open Studio classes will be conducted at partner organization Tee Tiny Houses of Arnaudville, 1056 B. Coteau Rodaire Highway, Arnaudville. All other classes will be at collective. Tuesdays - 6 to 8 pm, Feb. 20- March 7, Intro to Oil Painting Level 1. Supply list provided. Cost of $60 is based on three classes. Minimum five participants. The instructor is visual artist Kay Jeansonne, whose work is represented by Darpino Fine Art in Colorado Springs, where she lived and painted for 18 years prior to returning to Acadiana. Jeansonne holds a bachelor of fine arts from LSU and a master of arts from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. For the past two years she has won “Best Oil Painting” at the annual Big Easel Art Show in Lafayette. Intro to Oil Painting Level 2 continued study is March 18-27.
Wednesdays - 6 to 9 pm, Feb. 21- April 4, Long Pose with Live Model, open studio for all levels to render the human form in any medium. Each session will be one pose for the whole time. All media encouraged. This session is non-instructional although the host/artist Kay Jeansonne, will be available for questions during breaks. Bring supplies. Cost of $96 is based on eight weeks, minimum five participants.
Sunday - 4 to 7 p.m., Feb. 18, An Afternoon with George and Rita. George Marks takes you through his steps for building the perfect Banana Bread Pudding, and Mama Rita Marks reveals long sought after secrets to her Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. Cost is $20 per person. Following lessons, students enjoy the fruits of labor with George and Rita. Minimum 10 participants.
Saturday - 3 to 5 p.m., March 3, You are Your Own Doctor. How to prevent disease with Chinese natural therapy. Dr. Dan Liu, a retired medical doctor and acupuncturist discusses natural practices and applications for well being. Class concludes with home remedy for the flu and Alzheimer’s disease preventing movement and exercise. Participation requires a yoga mat, pen and paper for notes. Cost is $10.
Saturday - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 14, Be Seated, chair weaving class with instructor Jo Rusin. Beginner’s class includes the flat reed, an easy to use material very similar to split oak. With the skills you will learn in this class, not only will you have a sit-able chair again, you will be ready to restore even more old chairs. Bring your lunch and enjoy a day of seat weaving.
