Parish sales tax revenue rose in 2017

Total sales tax revenue in St. Landry Parish rose 1.8 percent in 2017 compared to 2016, according to a statistics from the St. Landry Parish School Board. Sales Tax Division.
The parish sales tax total includes collections for the parish, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
St. Landry Parish total sales tax collections rose to $65,867,903 in 2017, up $1,84,373 from 2016’s total.
At the end of the year sales tax revenue in December was $4,743,292, down 5 percent from November’s total of $4,959,309.
The December parish total was up 0.9 percent from December 2016, when the total was $4,702,411.
Sales tax collections in Eunice during 2017 totaled $5,239,427, up $40,821 or 0.8 percent from 2016’s total.
Like the parish, there was a end of the year dip in revenue. December 2017’s total was $383,522, down 7.6 percent from November’s total of $4154,139.
Eunice’s December collection was a 2 percent increase from December 2016’s $375,583.
Opelousas sales tax revenue in 2017 was $9,615,297, down 0.5 percent from 2016’s total of $9,667,732.
December sales tax revenue in Opelousas was $672,841, down 10 percent from November’s $748,055.
Opelousas’ December total was a 3 percent or $22,436 decrease from December 2016’s $695,227.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas in St. Landry Parish pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish tax rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
