Rayne Police Chief Carroll J. Stelly has been appointed to the Acadia Parish Communications District.
Stelly succeeds Church Point Police Chief Albert Venable on the board.
The Acadia Parish Police Jury approved the appointment during its January meeting.
“Mr. Albert Venable has served on the Acadia Parish Communications District Board as a representative of police departments in Acadia Parish and has been a valued member and an asset to the board,” Mary T. Richard, director, said in a letter to the police jury. “Mr. Venable decided not to seek re-election for the Church Point chief of police position and to retire from law enforcement, his position on the board has become open effective Jan. 1.”
Richard recommended appointing Stelly to replace Venable, explaining that the Rayne chief has attended several board meetings and has voiced his interest in becoming a member of the board.
“We feel that Chief Stelly can bring knowledge and experience to the board,” Richard said.
Also at the January meeting, jurors renewed a cooperative agreement with the Acadia Soil and Water Conservation District and allocated $2,500 for the district.
In a letter to the jury, Gerard Frey, chairman, Acadia SWCD, said, “Through your partnership effort with the District, we will continue to provide technical conservation assistance to your local drainage districts as we have for over 40 years.”
The allocated funds allow Acadia SWCD to continue to provide drainage maps, drainage surveys, hydraulic studies, culvert sizes, channel designs and soil erosion control techniques to solve problems and make improvements throughout the parish.
