The annual Right for Life March was held in Eunice at noon Wednesday, which marked the 47th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion in the U.S. throughout all nine months of pregnancy.
Since then, it is estimated that 50 million pregnancies have been aborted each year.
The march allows participants to grieve that loss and show support for strong Right-to-Life legislation.
The march lineup began on North 2nd Street in front of Picou’s Drug Store, and walkers walked in silence downtown 2nd St. and concluded at the City Hall parking lot.
Guest speaker at the parking lot was the Rev. Hampton Davis, pastor at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Rev. Davis led the small crowd with a song, “This little Light of Mine I will let it shine.” He led the group in prayer for the unborn, women that struggle with a decision of life or to abort.
“We need to lift these women in prayer, give support and love, guide them to choose life. We need to be in constant prayer and surround them in love. We also need to pray for those women who had abortions.”
Jerrie LeDoux, representing U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson, was in attendance at the City Hall. She read a letter written from Johnson. “Johnson is our voice in Washington... gives total support for Pro Life and the sanctity of Life.”
The theme of this year’s Right for Life March is “Life Empowers: Pro-Life is Pro-Woman.”
