Three Eunice candidates apparently qualified for their offices without opposition, according to the state Secretary of State’s website on Friday.
Marion “Nootsie” Sattler was the lone qualifier for the alderman at-large position now held by Jack Burson. Burson has held the job for 24 years.
Sattler will leave his Ward 3 seat, which drew qualifiers Ernest “Ernie” Blanchard and Gabriel “Gabe” Ortego.
Incumbent Mayor Scott Fontenot drew a late Friday qualifying challenge from Tim Smith.
Qualifying was held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the Delta Grand Theater in Opelousas. Smith’s name appeared on the state website after 4 p.m. Friday.
— Ward 1: Chad Andrepont, Tony Baltakis and Roland Miller. Jason Bertrand, the current officeholder, did not qualify.
— Ward 2: Martin Bellow, Germaine Simpson and Jackie “Ju Ju” Vallarie. Simpson is the incumbent.
Ward 4: Connie Thibodeaux and James Donnie Fontenot qualified for the seat now held by Thibodeaux, who is the interim alderwoman.
In the Eunice chief of police race, incumbent Randy Fontenot qualified and is challenged by Allarate “AJ” Frank.
Mary Ellen Donatto and Albert “Al” Hayes Jr. went unchallenged for the St. Landry Parish School Board seats. Donatto represents District 13 and Hayes is the District 12 Board member.
The School Board District 11 seat held by Roger Young for the past 32 years drew three qualifiers. Young did not qualify. The candidates are Shonda Garner Brooks, Jaqueline M. Gennuso and Myron Guillory.
