Scott Fontenot is announcing his candidacy for mayor of Eunice in the Nov. 6 election.
His announcement includes the following.
I am a 36 year old lifelong resident of Eunice. I am married to Katie Smith Fontenot, a third grade teacher at Eunice Elementary. Together we have two children, Anzley, 15, and Wesley, 13.
I am the son of retired, three-term, Eunice Chief of Police Gary “Goose” Fontenot and Mary Ann Fontenot who is employed by Aguillard Agency (43 years).
I am the owner and founder of Superior Auto Specialists in Eunice, operating locally since 2004. I was elected as Eunice city councilman of Ward 4 in 2010 and again in 2014, winning unopposed in my second term. I served as mayor pro tem for the years 2014 and 2015. I was appointed interim mayor in October 2015 to fulfill the unexpired term of the late Mayor Claude “Rusty” Moody. I was elected by the people of Eunice to serve as mayor in a March 2016 special election, which I am currently serving.
I have attended both Saint Edmund Catholic and Eunice public schools, graduating from Eunice High School in 2000. I have attended Louisiana State University at Eunice. I am currently serving as a board member for the Eunice High School Alumni Association (eight years).
I am a former full-time employee of the Eunice Fire Department.
For the last 18 years I have volunteered as a coach for the Eunice Rec for both boys and girls and I am also a past league director.
I am currently serving as a board member for the Eunice/Opelousas Public library system (four years). I am also a member of the organization, Keep Eunice Beautiful.
I have completed training in the Pipeline Safety Program/Coordinated Response Exercise presented by the Pipeline Association of Louisiana.
I have successfully completed the educational requirements for “Basic Economic Development” accredited by the International Economic Development Council, Southeastern University, Louisiana Economic Development and the Louisiana Industrial Developement Executives Association. I have also completed the training, “Role of Elected Officials in Economic Development”, presented by LIDEA at McNeese State University.
I am a current member of the Louisiana Municipal Association, having attended 12 conferences while receiving over 240 hours of training and seminars.
I am currently serving as vice chairman of the Saint Landry Parish Municipal Association.
