Second alligator captured in Eunice

Body

Eunice Police captured its second alligator within days, this time coming out of the graveyard by O’Reilly’s on U.S. 190.
The alligator was spotted at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday and taken to the city limit line and released into the bayou, according to a Eunice Police Department log on the incident.
The alligator captured Saturday was about the same size — about 3 feet long — as one found Oct. 16 on the Frey’s Laundry loading dock. That alligator also was captured and released.
Eunice Deputy Chief Richard Daigle said it is rare to find alligators inside the city.
He recalled an alligator being found behind Naquin Furniture when Gary “Goose” Fontenot was police chief.
A 7-foot-long alligator was found at City lake not long ago, he said.
Mayor Scott Fontenot also said alligators in the city are a rare find. In fact, he said he doesn’t recall ever seeing one in the city.
Paul Carrier, street department supervisor, said he has not seen any alligators.
The one found Saturday was removed by Sgt. Robert Brickley.
Calls and emails to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries seeking comment about the alligators went unanswered.
After the first alligator was found Oct. 16, Eunice Police said they were told the wildlife department does not respond to gators unless they are more than 4 feet long.
