Outgoing St. Landry Parish School Board President Randy Wagley cast doubt a teacher would be ejected from a meeting here like happened in Vermilion Parish.
Wagley commented about public access, transparency and working together as he wound up year as School Board president.
“Everybody saw what happened in Vermilion Parish. I think you can all agree that we have bent over backwards at allowing people to speak on items not on the agenda. Our policy says five minutes. If you speak six, we are not going to have you removed. We work for you,” he said.
At Jan. 8 Vermilion Parish School Board meeting teacher Deyshia Hargrave confronted the Vermilion Board about a $38,000 raise given to Superintendent Jerome Puyau.
Hargrave wound up being handcuffed and escorted out of the building for a trip to the Abbeville Police Department.
Hargrave said it was unfair the superintendent was getting a raise when teachers have not had a raise in eight years.
Videos of the incident have gone viral on the internet.
