Tax revenue on the rise in parish

Sales tax revenue in St. Landry Parish is on the rise compared to a year ago, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Total parish year-to-date sales tax revenue rose to $50.5 million in September, up 3.3 percent from the same period in August 2017.
The parish sales and use tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement, special tax districts and municipalities. The total does not include state collections.
Eunice year-to-date sales tax collections through September were $4.2 million, up 4.6 percent from the same nine months in 2017.
Opelousas year-to-date sales tax collections were $7.3 million, up 0.6 percent from the same period in 2017.
The parish 2 percent Road District 1 tax that pays for the Smooth Ride Home program totaled $5.3 million through September, up 6.4 percent from the same period in 2017.
The road tax is collected in unincorporated areas.
Eunice collections in September were $457,910, up 5.6 percent from August, but down 4.2 percent from September 2017.
Opelousas collections in September were $723,217, down 3.6 percent from August and up 1.3 percent from September 2017.
The road district’s September total was $642,786, up 8.3 percent from August and 14.8 percent over the September 2017 total.
Total parish revenue in September was $5.7 million, up 0.8 percent from August and down 2.6 percent from September 2017.
The local sales tax rates in Eunice are 2.2 percent city and 3.55 percent parish.
Local sales tax rates in unincorporated St. Landry Parish are 5.55 percent parish tax rates that includes the 2 percent Smooth Ride Home Program tax.
The sales tax numbers include a use tax, which is paid on items used, stored or consumed. The sales tax is collected on a transaction.
