Week of wild weather ends

Sunshine on Friday ended a week where temperatures dipped as low as 12 degrees; and freezing rain, sleet and snow fell on the area and lingered from Monday through Friday.

COVID vaccine eligibility expands on Monday

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that beginning Monday an additional group of Louisianans – K-12 teachers, school support staff, day care staff, those who are pregnant and Louisianans aged 55 to 64 with certain health conditions – are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Lourella “Mrs. Lou” S. Fontenot

EUNICE–It is with the heaviest hearts that the family of Lourella S. Fontenot announces her passing on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the age of 93. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice.

Sheriff: 5 charged after 4-wheeler sale turns into armed robbery

Four men were charged with armed robbery and a fifth man with drug charges after a 4-wheeler sale in the Mamou area turned into an armed robbery. Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory said in a news release deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery on Feb.

Mary Evelda Guillory

Mary Evelda Green Guillory was born April 24, 1934 in Plaquemine Point near Opelousas, Louisiana to Bessie Handy-Green and Joseph Colbert Green. She was the third child of eleven. At age 14, her mother died and she took on all responsibilities of being a mother to her nine brothers and sisters.
