Waste Management suspends collections due to weather conditions

 Due to winter weather conditions and road closures, Waste Management is extending suspension of all garbage and trash collection services for Acadiana area customers through Tuesday. Waste Management will resume those collection services when road conditions are deemed safe to travel.

I-10 Mississippi River bridge closed

The I-10 Mississippi River Bridge is closed in both directions due to winter weather and freezing conditions. DOTD will advise when the road has been re-opened.

Mardi Gras Association watching the weather

The Eunice Mardi Gras Association announced its Facebook page that as of 7 p,m. Saturday that its run will be held. But the association also announced that its final decision on the run would be made at 5 a.m. Tuesday. The decision, it stated, hinges on ice accumulation on bridges and roadways.

St. Landry Parish to open shelter today

St. Landry Parish Parish President Jessie Bellard announced Saturday that the parish would open a shelter at the Yambilee Building for residents without heat. The shelter will open at noon Sunday.  Anyone wishing to use the shelter should bring their blankets and pillows.

Rain, sleet, snow, cold, COVID the Mardi Gras run will go on

The Eunice Mardi Gras Run is scheduled despite certain cold and the threat of freezing rain, sleet, snow and the ever-present COVID-19. Captaine Pat Frey said there are still a few spots left for participants in the run. Registration is being accepted.
