UL Lafayette - Fall 2020 list of graduates

LAFAYETTE — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette recognized Fall 2020 graduates during Commencement ceremonies that were held over two days for each of the University’s eight academic colleges and the Graduate School.

Newspapers announce statewide investigative unit

The Times-Picayune and The Advocate on Wednesday announced plans to dramatically increase the size of its investigative unit and to expand coverage throughout Louisiana. The news organization will double its staff by hiring a data journalist, two additional reporters and a deputy editor.

BESE requests vaccine prioritization for school staff

The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education on Tuesday voted to ask Gov. John Bel Edwards’ administration to prioritize school staff when deciding which groups of workers will get COVID-19 vaccinations next. Vaccinations began Monday in Louisiana.

JD Bank provides free BBQ plate lunches for city workers

JD Bank sponsored and hosted an Appreciation Free barbecue luncheon for city workers, Eunice City Council, Eunice’s Chief of Police and Fire Chief at noon Thursday at the VFW Hall on Bobcat Drive.

FEMA drive-thrus winding down

BATON ROUGE — Three FEMA drive-thru Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) will be adding an additional service “Appeals Centers” in Jefferson Davis, Lafayette and Rapides Parishes to assist registrants who wish to appeal FEMA determinations.

Young released from prison

Chad Young, who was convicted in 1988 of killing his mother, father and brother, has been released from the Louisiana State Penitentiary. KLFY of Lafayette reported his release. Young, 49, was sentenced to life in prison for the crimes he committed when he was 17 years old.
