Betty Jane Dupre Pitre passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at the age of 78. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Quirk and Son Funeral Home of Eunice with Deacon Gary Gaudin officiating. Entombment will follow in St Paul Mausoleum.

Tri-Parish schools to share in $41.9M for school improvements

Tri-Parish schools are to receive a share of $41.9 million in federal funding to help struggling schools. A committee of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) Tuesday approved allocations to improve over 500 struggling schools across the state.

Parish to use own resources for spraying

A spraying program to control roadside weeds will have to wait at least a month, but it now appears it is likely to happen. At Wednesday’s St. Landry Parish Council meeting the issue was continued until its Public Works Committee meets on June 3.

Robbery arrest

From Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot Dalvin Wilson: second-degree robbery. The victim obtained a ride in a vehicle in which Wilson was a passenger. The victim was discussing a handgun he had purchased that day and showing it to the passengers in the vehicle.

Drug bust

From Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot Horatio Roussel: Eunice Police patrol officers conducted a traffic stop for traffic violations. The driver could not provide a valid driver’s license and a warrant check revealed that the driver was wanted by another agency.

Flexible admission standards requested

The House Education Committee advanced a resolution Tuesday asking Louisiana universities to adopt a flexible and holistic admissions approach amid the COVID-19 epidemic. Many students were unable to take the ACT in April since it was cancelled due to the virus.
