Former Eunice educator heads Lafayette Parish schools

Former Eunice educator Irma Trosclair was named by the Lafayette Parish School Board as its permanent leader Wednesday in a unanimous vote. Trosclair has been serving as interim superintendent. There were two applicants in the seven-week search. The other applicant was Curt R. Green of Atlanta.

Former Gov. Foster OK after surgery

Former Gov. M.J. “Mike” Foster Jr. is recovering after having surgery in Baton Rouge and will be at his Oaklawn home near Franklin within the week. Foster, 89, served as governor from 1996 to 2004.

Governor closes K-12 public schools

Gov. John Bel Edwards ordered K-12 public schools to close effective Monday through April 13 and banned gatherings of more than 250 people. The orders in a proclamation announced Friday were made to slow the spread of Covid-19.
