McGovern wins assessor’s race

Sherri Zeringue McGovern defeated Blair Briggs to win election as St. Landry Parish Assessor. McGovern won 60% of the 28,853 votes cast in Saturday’s election, according to complete but unofficial returns. McGovern will succeed Ryhn Duplechain who has served 33 years as assessor.

Acadia Police Jury sets budget hearing

With little fanfare, but before a large audience, the Acadia Parish Police Jury introduced its proposed 2020 budget and called for a public hearing on the document Tuesday (Nov. 12) night. That public hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 10.
