Citrus disease causing concern for growers

As the citrus harvest gets under way in Louisiana, some growers have complained about internal dry rot of fruit this year. Mature fruit looks otherwise healthy from the outside, but internal dry rot can be seen after peeling the fruit, said LSU AgCenter plant doctor Raj Singh.

Keep Eunice Beautiful received two grants from Keep Louisiana Beautiful that were among 40 announced totaling $125,000. Keep Eunice Beautiful was awarded an affiliate grant for two trash receptacles and a clean up supply grant.

Veteran honored on 100th birthday

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Eunice Post 8971 honored Harold Gournay on his 100th birthday. Gournay is shown at right with the VFW Louisiana State Commander Mickey Carroll, who presented him with a special certificate of recognition from the VFW National Commander-in-Chief William J. “Doc” Schmitz.

Second alligator captured in Eunice

Eunice Police captured its second alligator within days, this time coming out of the graveyard by O’Reilly’s on U.S. 190. The alligator was spotted at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday and taken to the city limit line and released into the bayou, according to a Eunice Police Department log on the incident.
