Resolution asks for action on abandoned hospital

Citing safety concerns, Eunice aldermen approved a resolution Tuesday asking St. Landry Parish Government and the Parish Council to act on the abandoned Moosa Memorial Hospital. The resolution requests St. Landry Parish Government remove the asbestos and demolish or secure the building.

St. Landry Parish sales tax collection growth slows

Growth in St. Landry Parish sales tax collections continued to slow in July as the total collected in the parish was $40,954,187, down $342,646 or 0.8% from the same period in 2018, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.

Wildfires down in past decade for various reasons

Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry has seen a drastic decrease in wildfires over the past decade for various reasons. According to records, LDAF firefighters battled and suppressed 1,638 wildfires in 2008. In 2018, LDAF firefighters suppressed 676 wildfires in Louisiana.

Livestock thefts in St. Landry Parish tied to Cankton man

A St. Landry Parish man is accused of stealing 11 head of cattle. Richard P. Breaux, of the 200 block of Noah’s Ark Boulevard, Cankton, was arrested by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Livestock Brand Commission on Aug. 8. Breaux is charged with 11 counts of theft of livestock.

Driver dies from injuries in St. Landry Parish crash

At about 6 p.m. July 30 Louisiana State Police Troop I troopers began investigating a two-vehicle crash on La. 343 at La. 761 in St. Landry Parish that ultimately took the life of 21-year-old Colby Deemer of Carencro.
