EUNICE- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mike Burnett announces his passing on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at his home in Eunice. He was 68. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice.

Voter registration deadlines listed Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters, has announced that the last day to register to vote in person or by mail for the Oct. 12 election will be Sept. 11. The deadline for GeauxVote.com online electronic registration will be Sept. 21.

Comparing the parish high school LEAP tests

Eunice High School was the second-highest performing St. Landry Parish high school in the 2019 LEAP results. Eunice High School grew its percentage of students scoring mastery or better from 37 to 40 in combined English Language Arts, Mathematics and Social Studies.

Pelican Institute to pitch its reforms

The Pelican Institute for Public Policy launched a six-figure advertising campaign last week to “further educate citizens, elected leaders and candidates for office about its comprehensive policy reform effort.” It’s called “A Jobs and Opportunity Agenda for Louisiana.

City readying for birthday celebration

The City of Eunice has scheduled a celebration of its 125th anniversary on Sept. 14 with a day full of music and activities. At a meeting Tuesday, organizers began the final round of planning for the day-long event that includes the unveiling of a Clovis Crawfish statue.
