St. Landry School Board committee members named

St. Landry Parish School Board committee assignments for the newly elected members have been announced. One of the members, John Miller, died Jan. 28. Chairmen of the Academic and Personnel committees were to be elected at meetings Tuesday.

Francis elected PSC chairman

At the January Business and Executive meeting of the Louisiana Public Service Commission, Mike Francis, R-Crowley, was unanimously elected chairman by the five Louisiana Commissioners for the 2019 term.

Eunice Elementary copes with water damage

Eunice Elementary, which experienced one building damaged by fire on Aug. 14, 2018, has been coping with water damage at its administrative building. On Friday, work was being done to move administrators to a temporary building on the campus.

Neighborhood watch groups in progress

Two neighborhood watch groups are in the process of forming in Eunice, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot. “I’m not sure if there are any others,” he said. “But I know there is a lot of talk about trying to get it going in different neighborhoods.

Hundreds oppose injection well site

Over 200 citizens from St. Landry Parish along with local elected officials spoke out against a proposal by Lafayette company Eagle Oil LLC to drill an injection well near the Beggs community.
