The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Sept. 4 Timothy Woodard, 55, 1000 block of Pal Place, Breaux Bridge. Aggravated Crime Against Nature. Arrested by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department. Terrance Quinn Simmons, 42, 900 block of Park Circle, Opelousas.

The following are excerpts from the Eunice Police Department radio dispatch logs. Sept. 1 00:52 Received a second call from Days Inn and advised they need an officer to return, the family is back. 01:41 Caller from McArthur Street area advised that there are some people arguing and fighting.

Eunice Police Arrests

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. Aug. 31 Jacob Kibodeaux, 27, 300 block of Bacciochi, Eunice. Possession of synthetic cannabinoid, first conviction, stop sign violation, possession of Schedule II, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer, and bicycles required headlights.

Bulb & Blossom meeting set Sept. 10 The Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at the home of Marlow Veillon. Plans will be finalized for the upcoming district meeting which will be hosted by Eunice. All members are asked to attend.

John David Ortego

ELTON-John David Ortego, 58, a lifelong resident of Elton, LA, passed away in his home on September 2, 2018. He was born May 27, 1960, to John and Hilda Klumpp Ortego. He attended school in Elton and was a graduate of the class of 1978.

Roland Lee "Poppee" Ortego

Roland Lee “Poppee” Ortego passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018, at the age of 93 in the comfort of his home surrounded by family. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at 10:00 AM. at St. Augustine Church in Basile. Burial will follow at Reed Cemetery in Tee Mamou.

Alfa Murry Harrell

Alfha Murry Harrell passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at the age of 82. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 10:00 AM. at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice. Burial will follow at Maxie Cemetery. Pastor Ron Lacombe will officiate.

School Board ends year with break even budget

About 30 days ago it looked as if the St. Landry Parish School Board would finish its 2017-2018 budget year eroding its fund balance. But the school’s budget will come in $40,000 to the plus side and its fund balance remains in its target zone.

School chief introduces performance targets

A set of guidelines for school employees on attitude, communication, sense of ownership and commitment to co-workers was approved by the St. Landry Parish School Board’s Executive Committee and will go before the full Board on Thursday.

East Elementary 
ranks tops in state

East Elementary School in Eunice received state recognition as the highest ranking Top Growth school in the state of Louisiana in English Language Arts and Math, according to a news release from the St. Landry Parish School Board.
