Quilts donated to Eunice Police

Five quilts were donated to Eunice Police to use to comfort people in distress. Katharine Batiste, of Church Point, and Judy Derbes, of Eunice., both members of Quilter’s Guild of Acadiene presented the quilts on Friday.

Hulin Health Urgent Care Clinic open in Eunice

Hulin Health announced the opening in Eunice of its fifth urgent care clinic in Acadiana. The Hulin Health brand has four additional locations in New Iberia, Lafayette, and Abbeville with plans on expanding to Opelousas, Marksville and Ville Platte.

There seems to be a wealth of fabricators at the state capitol in Baton Rouge. Gov. John Bel Edwards is accusing U.S. Sen. John Kennedy of making “untruthful comments” on the early release of state prisoners. Kennedy has countered back calling out the governor for “bending the truth.

Supplies requested at Eunice Elementary

Supplies are still needed at Eunice Elementary where a fire on Aug. 14 destroyed teacher and student supplies from pens, paper to tissue. Mary Dupre, principal at Eunice Elementary, said, “This transition thus far has gone smoothly.

Boy, 9, wounded in drive-by shooting

A Sunday morning drive-by shooting that wounded a 9-year-old boy on Boudreaux Street is being compared to a shooting that happened in June 2017. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot thinks there is a similarity to last year’s activities of the street gang known as Goons for Life.

Soybean demand is strong

Worldwide demand for U.S. soybeans remains strong in the midst of a trade war, and China still needs America’s soybeans, according to an LSU AgCenter report on trade tensions with China. “There are, as yet, no signs of slowing global demand for U.S. soybeans, which is positive,” the report says.

Rice harvest looking good

The 2018 rice harvest in southwest Louisiana is past the halfway point, and LSU AgCenter agents say farmers are pleased. “Yields have been good, and it seems overall to be a very good crop,” said Jeremy Hebert, LSU AgCenter agent in Acadia Parish.

Another session unlikely

It has been about three months since this year’s legislative finale at the Capitol, which was plenty enough time for the Legislature’s leadership to recover and assess the resulting policy output from four sessions.
