Tourism numbers keep climbing says Nungesser

There were a record 47.1 million visitors to Louisiana in 2017, representing an increase of nearly 500,000 over the 46.7 million visitors reported in 2016. Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser in a news release said it was the sixth consecutive year of record-breaking tourism numbers in Louisiana.

4-year high school grad rate highest ever in La.

Eunice High School’s four-year graduation rate of 87.1 percent led St. Landry Parish public schools and was ahead of the state rate in statistics released by the state Department of Education.

LSU Eunice graduates were urged to meet a series of challenges presented by commencement speaker State Rep. John Stefanski at ceremonies Friday. Stefanski, 33, of Crowley, presented three challenges to the graduates.

City plans street paving

The city will pave sections of 23 streets beginning in late July in an overlay program that occurs every other year. Mayor Scott Fontenot released the list of the streets Thursday and the estimates, which total $1,030,000. The city advertised for bids in Thursday’s Eunice News.
